Greetings everyone!
We wanted to let everyone know about a new project we launched this week.
It’s called the “Open Letters Project.”
The premise is simple: Christians around the world don’t practice male circumcision. In fact, many of them don’t know that the United States does this routinely. This is because circumcision has never been part of modern Christianity – Paul denounced the practice many times throughout the New Testament, and so have leaders in the Church.
Because Christians elsewhere know this to be true, we’re asking for their help. The Open Letters Project attempts to connect Christian organizations from around the world by asking them to send letters to Christian organizations here in America, encouraging them to take a Biblical stand in saying “no” to allowing the children in their church to be harmed by unnecessary genital cutting.
We hear so often in our interactions with others that American Christians just think circumcision is permissible ‘because it’s in the Bible’ or ‘God said to do it, and he wouldn’t tell us to do anything wrong,’ unaware of the context of the original commandment or how the practice has changed over time to become much more invasive and damaging.
We sincerely hope this will allow a dialogue to open up between churches here in America and churches in Europe, Asia, Australia, and elsewhere, where Christians have always rejected circumcision. We believe that this openness in dialogue can help enact a real change in American Christian culture to move away from accepting Male Genital Mutilation as ‘just what we do’ and instead to recognize God’s design as purposeful, beneficial, and respectful to the man who that newborn baby grows up to be.
Needed: Contacts, Translators, Prayers, Donors
We need your help, though. This process takes time, effort, energy, and lots of support. That’s where you come in. Put us in contact with people you may know (pastors, missionaries, deacons, etc.) to help this message reach those in positions of authority within the Church. Help us equip a generation by making a tax-deductible donation to fund Little Images’ work. If you are able to translate into another language, let us know. And above all, pray for us – for God’s favor and guidance in our mission – as well as against the forces at work that want to silence the message of God’s peace and love.
We can do this. You can help us make it happen.

I hope genital cutting is eliminated in all countries not just the usa. This is the most idiotic and least understood tradition we have ever had. Wake up!

Tell me more…you’re looking for contacts to leadership in non-American churches? For example, ask an overseas missionary we know to ask a local church leader to….do what? Get in contact with Little Images? I’m looking for clarification on what we are asking people to do. Personally the 3-4 missionaries (American) that I’ve mentioned ethical problems with circumcision to, I’ve just heard crickets back from them.
I do know that relatives of mine who taught in Columbia had students who were appalled that Americans actually did such a thing.

Right, church leadership in other parts of the world. Overseas American missionaries probably wouldn’t be very helpful, I’m afraid, unless they’ve already learned about this issue some time ago. So far, we’ve got connections in Russia and probably in the UK and Germany, as well as Russian and German translators.
